Miriam Schmidtke is a media artist, writer and director.
Through a multifaceted practice she crafts immersive experiences that question the essence of humanity in an increasingly automated habitat. In her practice lies an interrogation of bias, discrimination, and exclusion ingrained within the fabric of technological systems, societal norms and systemic inequities perpetuated by dominant power structures.
Central to her artistic exploration is a profound engagement with feminist topics, challenging the patriarchal underpinnings of society. Her work highlights the voices and experiences of females*, particularly in the context of labor, representation, objectification and agency within digital and physical spaces.
Especially her text-based work delves deeply into themes of solitude and introspection, exploring the inner landscapes of individuals as they navigate an increasingly interconnected yet isolating world. Through poetic monologues and fragmented narratives, she captures the nuanced experiences of loneliness and self-reflection, emphasizing the dichotomy between our digital hyper-connectedness and the profound sense of isolation it can engender. These works serve as meditations on the nature of selfhood and the quiet, often unspoken struggles that accompany the human experience, inviting audiences to engage with their own solitary journeys in the face of technological determinism.
